●英国ロイヤル・バレエ団「くるみ割人形」(The Royal Ballet , The Nutcracker)
ロンドンで、ロイヤルで、この作品を見たかった。
劇場の中は身なりの良い人ばかり。小さい女の子たちも、みんなふわふわしたドレスでおめかししている。連日通っている「シザーハンズ」の客席とは偉い違いだった。あっちは、頭に「お箸」や「ピナコラーダについてそうなミニ和傘」をつきたてたイカレぎみの人とか、開幕中にもずっとコーラを飲んでるデブとか（並びだったからちょっと話したのだが彼はティム・バートンファンで、ぼくがトウキョウから来たと行ったらしきりとうらやましがってくれた。）…とにかく「ロッキーホラーショー」の客席にいそうな連中が多かったんだけど、さすがのロイヤルオペラハウスはトラディショナルな人ばかりだった。
クロークにコートを預け、席の場所をチェックしてからバーに行った。グラスワインを飲みながら、買ったプログラムと今日の配役表をチェック。お目当てのソリストなどに変更はないようだ。
ロビーに飾られた歴史的衣装やセット模型を見つつ、席へ。隣は年配の夫婦、もう一方の隣は小さな女の子を連れた夫婦。ロイヤルバレエは特に年令制限はなく、座席さえ買えば子供もウェルカムである。というわけで、約１万７千円の席を惜しみ無く子に買い与えられるような家の子供だけが、この場にいられるということになる。この子は１幕目のバトルの当たりから耐えられなくなり、あえなく退場。その後２幕目に戻って来た時は寝ていた。１万７千円。つーかこんなときに値段を思い出したらだめなんだろう。プライスレス。
バレエの方は、小さなクララがナターシャ・アウトレッド（Natasha Oughtred）。バラの妖精がSarah Lamb。シュガープラムとグランＰＤＤにタマラ・ロホ（Tamara Rojo）。正直、くるみ割のクララはバレエ教室では人気の役だろうけど、実際にはまったくおいしくない役だと毎度のことながら思う。今回印象に残った踊り手はタマラ・ロホ。来日した時のマノンで注目しておくべきだったかも。しまったなあ。ギエムにうつつを抜かしていたのがまずかった。
ロンドンで、ロイヤルでくるみ割を見たかった理由は、単に、子供のころに読んだ「ドリーナ・アダムズ」のシリーズの感触を思い出したかったから。ドミニクバレエ団とスクールのモデルは、どう考えてもロイヤルバレエだ。ナターシャはバレエの世界に没頭する幸せなドリーナで、多分舞台の袖には代役のローズがいるに違いないとか妄想しただけでもうメロメロ。フランツ役はイゴールな。ドロッセルマイヤーはピーターさんだよ。ベストセラーで一獲千金したイロンカの姉さん（とうとう名前が思い出せない）がシュガープラムでな……思えば、最近で一番元気で幸せな時間だったかもしれない。我を忘れて、幸せだった頃の妄想を引き出してむしゃぶりつけたのだから。
帰りは、ふらふら歩いたりせずに、タクシーでさくっと帰った。ドリーナがおばあちゃんに言われていたように。
プログラムを見て思ったのだけど、都ちゃんは口を閉じて笑ってる写真に変えた方がいいよ。
